Update Feb 2016

In addition to recording my transactions, I also decided to track down on a monthly basis, how much passive income i receive from dividends

Total of $815 for the month of February. Given that i only hold 15,000 STI ETF shares, seems like February is a good income month for me.
The yield of the ETF is around 3.5% to 4% at this current price now.

Also elected to receive dividends in the form of scrips for Frasers Commercial Trust since i do not need cash at the moment, so might as well reinvest it back in.

Added 500 shares to my STI ETF for this month, at a price of $2.65. A lot of people are avoiding the markets given the volatility, but my thinking is that if i am comfortable buying in at $3.30, i should be even more comfortable buying in at a lower price.

Gonna be adding positions on a regular basis going forward!

  1. Hi Dowz,

I have been adding the STI ETF to my portfolio despite the recent volatility as well. You have a lot more of it than me and it's a good diversified proxy of the Singapore stock market. All the best!

    Cheers,
    TFS

    1. yea, i think it's important to keep the faith in these volatile times. I view this as a good opportunity to accumulate, so the longer this down period, the better it is. :)

  2. Hey. What's your average price for sti etf? I continue to average down during the last few months. But it's very challenging mentally!

    1. Hi Roger, thanks for visiting and your question! It is very hard for me to answer what's my average price, as i started investing in STI ETF more than a couple of years back, although i did not buy much of it then.

If it helps, i started purchasing more last July/August, and averaged down ever since, so i entered at prices of $3.33, $3.10, $2.9 and most recently at $2.65.

Indeed it could be challenging mentally to see your networth going up and down every day. I guess the standard advice is, only invest what you can afford to lose. If it's causing you to lose sleep... you are probably over-invested in this asset class, and you should diversify into more stable assets.

Ultimately, when you invest in the STI ETF, you are purchasing a piece of the business of the top 30 companies in Singapore. Stock market price fluctuations is simply a function of market sentiments. Think of yourself as a business owner, owning a piece of DBS/UOB/OCBC and Singtel. Does their value change day by day? Probably not. But their stock price changes day to day, so try not to be too affected by them.

      hope it helps.
